Leaving it loose. Taking it in stride. Filling in as I go. Going easy.
You may not know it, but you’re grieving. You’re mourning the loss of regular life, of your old habits and ways. You’re feeling the loss of the way things were and fearing the uncertainties of the future.
You might be feeling the loss of an income or loved one (if you are, I’m sorry, and you’re probably aware of your own grief. This post is for those who aren’t—but the tips are still helpful!) On top of that, so many of you feel the pressure of taking on extra roles while everyone is saying, “Take advantage of this time!” What time?
So, as someone well acquainted with grief, here’s my advice: Take it easy. Some days you’ll feel great and others will be hard. You will have less energy than you think you should. (A friend once told me that she felt that grief poked a hole in your head so all your energy poured out.) Take care of your body and your mind and your spirit. Pay attention to the things that help and do them repeatedly. And, lastly (for this little list), know that there is a future, and it will bring good things back again. This is not the end.
