Yesterday eatdrinkvegan was so incredible! Even though most of the day was cloudy it didn’t stop it from being a great first experience♥️ Being introduced to so many foods that were alternatives to what some people call “real food” was mind blowing. The taste and texture of a plant based meal was so crazy delicious that I had to confirm that it wasn’t an animal product🙈 Sadly I couldn’t try every vendor there, but that’s what next year is for! By Sara Wylie “You know those little stickers that come on your produce and seem to stick to everything when you pull them off and cause more irritation than anything? Those little stickers actually have more to say than you might think. While the PLU number is meant to help price check and identify the fruit or veggie, it also helps you know how your produce was grown. It’s coded, but this code is easy to break, and once you can break it, you’ll always be able to know if your produce was genetically modified, grown with pesticides, fertilizers, fungicides and herbicides, or if it was grown naturally and organically. If the PLU code contains only 4 numbers, then that means it was grown traditionally or conventionally with the use of pesticides. If there are 5 numbers and the number starts with “8,” this means that the produce was genetically modified. This means that the fruit or vegetable was tampered with and altered in an unnatural way, typically with the intent to enlarge the produce, expand its shelf life, etc. example, a genetically modified banana would be labeled with 84011. If there are 5 numbers and the number starts with a “9,” this means that the produce was grown naturally and organically. Food intolerances and sensitivities can be hard to detect since they present themselves different from true allergies. Food intolerances/sensitivities are mediated by heightened igG immune antibodies and reactions/symptoms are delayed, where as allergies are mediated by igE immune antibodies and the reactions are immediate. It’s unfortunate because most people go years feeling like crap and not understanding why or knowing that it could be an underlying food sensitivity. . . Symptoms of food intolerances can present themselves as: headaches, fatigue, ADD, autoimmune disorders, runny nose, sinusitis, abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, colitis, acne, hives, eczema and joint pain. . . One of the best ways to determine which foods you do not tolerate is to undergo an elimination diet. To do so, eliminate certain foods (common ones are gluten, dairy, soy, eggs, corn, pork, beef, chicken, beans/lentils, coffee, citrus fruits, nuts, and nightshade vegetables), for ~three weeks, then slowly reintroduce 1 food back in for 1 day, monitoring symptoms for 3 days (do not continue to eat this food for the 3 days of monitoring), and then repeat with a new food. . . Why not just do food allergy testing? This method is much cheaper than food allergy testing which is also often unreliable. Most practitioners will tell you that elimination diets remain the gold standard for identifying food sensitivities. 👩🏼‍💼🥜 . . Do you guys find these digestive tips helpful!? The past few days have not been the best for me. My family ordered pizza and wings for dinner the other night when I got off work and I know I should’ve passed it up and got out my salad, but I ate it anyways and more than I should have. Feeling stuffed and tired from work, I let my excuses get the best of me and skipped my workout for the day. It seems to cause a cascade effect for me.. . No ones perfect, and I don’t want to try to appear to be online when I’m not in person. A GREAT ALL AROUND SHOULDER DRILL . Today I want to walk you through one of my favorite shoulder strengtheners. It's called the L to W, and it's straight up, hurts so good, torture for your rotator cuff.😰 . This drill is so effective because it allows us to not only work the rotator cuff but also cues us into a better shoulder and scapula position for loaded movements. The external rotation you create naturally cues you to pull the shoulders back, which is where we like to start most of our training movements.🏋🏼‍♂️ . So this can be a great one to help you learn how to get your shoulders back, plus, if you're dealing with shoulder issues, the isometric contraction placed on the cuff can be a great way to introduce load in a non-threatening way.💪 It's one of the tougher ones I use and I only start with about 6 reps for most people. Build up to doing 10 or so for a few sets and reap all the benefits this drill has to offer. . Tag a friend with shoulder pain and share the wealth! . Prehab101

HI FRIENDS! Long time no post. On Friday I traveled from Savannah, Ga to LAX to visit my cousin before I head to Alaska for the next year. Been enjoying my time here eating all the yummy food! I have been here for a day and a half and I already started getting anxious about the food I was eating, and how I hadn't been in the gym since FRIDAY MORNING. Made myself go before I went to the airport. Today I went for a small 20 minute walk/jog/sprint and did 100 pushups. And that's all it took for me to feel just a little better. Food doesn't define me. I'll get back in my schedule of being in the gym regularly. But for now I need to remember that memories are more important than obsessing over food and weights. HAPPY SUNDAY! ☀️😊

Part of my journey included a serious conditioning program the U.S. Navy uses for combat swimmers in BUD/S . . “Flutter kicks forever!” was what one instructor would say...and another would scream obscenities through a bullhorn from the hood of a field ambulance as it followed us on timed sand runs down the strand. . . Each day a constant alternating physical-mental evolutions designed to harden your temperament...and make physical supermen from “pollywogs” (one of the nicest terms I can use to describe baby SEALS) Class 133 Hoo-Yaa. . . PT was 5-6 days/week depending on how well you performed on personnel, room inspections and daily evolutions with PT you could fly under the radar and NOT get singled out as a misfit or “brown noser” which you were scheduled for a corrective exercise session called “goon squad PT.” . . While all other candidates went home for 48 hrs of R & R (rest n recuperation) the screw ups ( you hosed up something during weekly w/less than perfect military bearing or conduct) you were invited for a full day of the worst punishing physical training imaginable. . . My favorite? “Sugar Cookies” were a few shoulder rolls in the ice cold surf , then a complete rollling head to toe in the beach sand followed by 2-3 mile run up n over the sand dunes with more PT to ensure the sand was nicely caked into armpit and groin area. . . You were literally a bloody mess when done. . . Neither was a label you wanted if survival was your goal. . . Doing PT on the ground in dive shorts and no towel or mat gives a whole new meaning to core training. The memories of a bleeding tail bone were remedied with a Kotex maxi pad stuck to the inside of your dive shorts for protection. Your goal wasn’t to get caught making slight modifications to standard rules...but learning to improvise was part of our job description😎 . . A decade of my life was dedicated to military service and I have the utmost respect and admiration to all that have served. Thank you brothers n sisters of the armed services for your service. . . CORE training is serious business for me and so are the fond memories of how I built mine😎😇 . .

I've been on a "red sauce" kick lately and decided I wanted pastaaaa! However, I wanted more volume and not so much the low fiber starchy carbs, so I mixed a good amount of zoodles with spinach and chive linguini I had left over. The sauce is made with lean ground turkey and I topped it with mozzarella balls, parmesan, and served it over spinach and arugula. For all my vegan friends out there, you can veganize this by using gardein or beyond meat ground rounds. And for the cheese, followyourheart has, in my opinion, the best parmesan and store bought sliced cheeses. Stay balanced, my friends💋

happy ☀️day beauts! hittin the gym to work some shoulders & back!!💪🏼 i’m so happy to finally see some progress lately. all of my workouts are written for this week, and going to the grocery store soon for some healthy lunches to bring to work😋 this week was definitely a huge change for me with starting a job and working 9+ hours a day. i absolutely love change and i’m so happy to have this opportunity🙌🏼 though with such a hectic schedule, it might be hard to get to the gym everyday or eat healthy. i’ve learned that meal prepping for work is honestly the bestttttt. last week didn’t go so well for me, and i definitely didn’t bring enough food with being so overwhelmed, so this week i’ve picked out some things i want to make and i’m meal prepping for my lunches! this is definitely a much better route and i’m so ready to crush it👊🏼
