For this shot, there’s a window to the model’s right and a window behind her, behind the portable black backdrop I used. There are 2 tricks to this shot: 1) getting the right time of day for the sun to be coming through pretty strongly through both windows, and 2) angle the backdrop just enough so that it would still fill my frame but also let enough light in from the back window to light Umi’s hair and the left side of her face. This last part was important because, with her hair also being black, it would get lost in the background if there wasn’t enough light on it to create separation. THIRD, get @kristenfiori to work her natural makeup magic. Umi is a total dork, so it wasn’t hard to get great shots of her smiling 😆.
