My husband made me go out for my walk this evening. I am so glad he did.
I pushed myself a little too much today, perhaps. I more than achieved my post HA daily exercise goal. So I was tired & grumpy. He just said: “Mental health, Vesna.” It was a BEAUTIFUL evening. I listened to a podcast with Mo Gawdat - what a fascinating man! Strongly recommend the How To Fail podcast. Wonderful. I also met a friend - with a road between us. It was so lovely.
I started thinking again about our natural habitat, our animal neighbours - how must they be thriving right now. I thought about how quiet the roads were and what a lovely walk I was having, even though it was just around our estate.
I started thinking about our behaviour, over the last few weeks. I have never experienced so much kindness & compassion. I truly, truly love my friends and family.
But why did some people panic buy? Why didn’t we just buy for one or two weeks, enough of toilet paper? Where was our compassion there? Did we think of others?
As Mo says, it comes out of distrust. Not out of distrust in the system, but in others around us.
For SO long, so many people have only ever lived just for themselves. They don’t have to think of others.
My best friend Nikki told me something beautiful yesterday. She and her family live in a village, in Warwickshire. She said that their local Co-Op was fully stocked all the time, in her village, because they are a community, they thought of others. I loved that.
I still hope that we never go back to “normal”. I hope we go back to thinking bigger picture. *
