Reposted from @ssserotonin You can always count on me to post some abandoned railroad photo from our bikepacking adventures in Guatemala.
This tunnel was unlike the other ones. More humid, less bats, less bat poop, and a blind curve in the middle where many people have been injured and killed. 😣
Despite the country’s mountainous terrain, there’s only a handful of tunnels — this one is the coolest by far. It must have been quite an engineering feat back in the early 20th century. My grandfather worked on the railroad a few decades later.
Only seconds before entering, we witnessed a man with a sombrero on a horse step into the tunnel, swallowed whole by the darkness. In hindsight, that memory feels fuzzy, like he was a mythological entity or something. I couldn’t catch up to him and I never saw him afterwards. 🤔
People also say that it’s haunted (like every dark corner in Guatemala) and that if you enter the tunnel with a flashlight, it’s bound to fail you for inexplicable reasons. 🤭
Would you dare enter? - #regrann
