The Arctic Henge
Over a 1000 km done by hitchhiking just to pitch a tent at the foot of this incredible structure and hope for some northern lights. I fell asleep on the soft moss and kept waking up to check up on the sky. And finally the great Aurora show began.
On the next day, despite getting up with the rising sun, I discovered there were absolutely no cars around, so I got stuck there, in the middle of nowhere, for a good couple of hours. Then a heavy storm came and made it all worse. A farmer living in Raufarhöfn, the village nearby, gave me a lift a bit further to the main road which was supposed to be a good starting point. Well, nobody decided to drive in this weather and I sat alone for hours on my backpack by the road. Wet and cold, with adventures on the way, I somehow managed to get back to the place I lived and was late only half an hour for work! In the end, I think it was worth the trip.
