Usually this time of year I experience S.A.D. (seasonal anxiety disorder) which also triggers my depression other mental health issues. However, since creating a daily routine, focusing my diet on high quality protein & fat consumption and including more movement into my day, I haven't felt it at all this year! Today, I'm feeling happy & really soaking up this sunny February weather!🌤🌡It might not be Mexico, but it's still making me feel good mentally and emotionally, which motivates me to be more physically active too. Lately, I've also been going for 7-10 mins of UV therapy (stand-up tanning beds) & it really uplifts my mood & energy for up to 48 hrs. 🌞 If you're feeling depressed right now or struggling with S.A.D. then it's time to get some vitamin D ~ 15-20 mins a day directly onto your skin is all you need! When you exercise, focus on movement quality before increasing weights and intensity. Balance in movement is essential for pain management. Recovery Myth No. 1️⃣: Recovery means getting “ back to normal “ . FACT CHECK: Ever heard the phrase “you can’t unsee it?” You “can’t unsee” your experiences with an eating disorder. That doesn’t mean an ED is a life sentence. Kind of like a relationship gone sour, you can either let that relationship dictate your narrative or you can view it as something that led you to become the person you are today. Recovery isn’t so much about getting back to normal as it is about the process of creating a new normal. In this new normal, the eating disorder is still a part of your story – it just is not the defining chapter. __________ Recovery Myth No. 2️⃣: Recovery is a set of definitive answers and a straight path to success. . FACT CHECK: Recovery is like taking three steps forward and two steps back. Then five steps forward and one step back. Then eight steps forward and four steps back. Over and over and over again. Until those steps back become smaller and smaller and smaller and eventually non-existent. No one formula works for everyone, and no one path is linear. __________ Recovery Myth No. 3️⃣: The hardest part of recovery is abstinence. . FACT CHECK: The hardest part of recovery isn’t necessarily when you’re first learning how to stay away from or replace the behaviors you once had. The hardest part of recovery can be when you think you’re on the right path and then get sneak-attacked by something you didn’t realise was a trigger. That’s why it’s called a trigger. You don’t see it coming and it hits. FAST. The recovery dance can feel like a risky one. Triggers everywhere. And not a lot to trust. But then again, building trust often times feels like the riskiest feeling of all. Movement is my medicine. In my mind I’m an athlete. I’ve been active since I can remember. Always pushing and challenging myself. I am a long distance race runner, weight lifter, endurance trainer, and handstand weirdo. Being active helps me stay balanced, think out my forever thoughts, get over the small stuff, grieve, connect with my body, and map out new creative ideas. I feel blessed to be able to move my body and continuously challenge my fitness. I can honestly say fitness has saved me. The out of breathe and soreness reminds me that I am alive and I’m strong. I don’t know about you, but that Pisces ♓️ new moon had me in a daze! I couldn’t get enough sleep 😴!! . . So thankfully today the fog is lifting as the 🌚 moves into Aries ♈️🔥 this afternoon, pfhew!! Hey ya’ll! It’s been a minute (or a few months) since I showed my face in this space, so I thought it would be appropriate for me to (re)introduce myself. ⠀ ⠀ I’m Jennifer. ⠀ ⠀ I’m a single mom, making an effort to break intergenerational parenting patterns and raise my kid in a way that looks much more loving, supportive, and collaborative than I ever experienced as a child. What terrifies you? For me: it's this right here. Being upside-down. When I got into yoga again about a year ago, and tried to stand on my head, fear shot through my body and left me shaking and panting on the floor- I legitimately felt like I almost died. This is how I KNEW I needed to keep trying. Your fear always points to something, and most often in our modern world, fear is an opportunity for large areas of growth and change. My fear of being upside-down seems irrational, but that fear is connected to so many other things that I 'think' I'm not good enough to do- And conquering those fears by facing them head-on and doing them anyway, is the quickest, most effective path to growth and change. I didn’t feel like running today. Headache, tired and on my period. 🔴 I was full of negative self talk and procrastinated big time. 😏 I told myself I would feel better after. That I didn’t have to run the whole way. Push-ups are such an overlooked movement in my opinion! Considering it being one of the staples, it should never be forgotten!
