Walking is where I feel the blossoming of my full being. It supports my body through movement, I feel clearer and aware of thoughts and feelings arising supporting my spiritual journey. Walking in cities around the world I enjoy getting lost, finding new inspiration. Walking in nature is a feast for my eyes and a boundless aroma of living earth. So, I enjoy walking with others rather than simply sitting in a chair. I find ideas, feelings and thoughts arise that may not appear within a room. We may experience ourselves playfully or more freely as we move. This simple act has far reaching possibilities beyond our critical, judging mind. Give this drill a try throughout the day or as part of your leg day warm up! . 1️⃣ 90-90: sit on the ground with a 90 degree angle at your knees and hips. Now slowly lift the rear knee as high as it will go and then follow with the rest of the body and sit nice and tall. Now bring the other knee down as far as you can and then allow the body to move so that you are facing the opposite direction to which you started. ✨Once upon a time✨ I went to a bar. There was a guy there having his farewell party before he moved to Tennessee the next day and he was wearing this exact shirt. When I saw it, in a typical display of over-enthusiasm, I showed him my prized Millennium Falcon keychain. Honestly, some of the most rewarding work for me is seeing and helping people in the latter stages of life improve and get stronger. Ravi has been on this planet for 82 years. Does he think he is done learning?? HELL NO!! He comes in twice a week with his superstar of a wife, and they are always eager to learn more and more about their bodies. They are always engaged in the learning process. Is Ravi allowing the stroke he had years ago take him out? Again, hell no! You can get stronger at ANY AGE! Other than the mobility work at the beginning of the video he hit is first FULL push up from the floor today. He was pretty stoked about it which made me even more stoked. The last clip is him refining his deadlift technique. Learning how to consistently engage his lats, abs and glutes have his deadlifts looking like examples for us all. Keep up the great work brother!

A taste of my “Yoga for Life” class at @spiritloft. Their intention for this class is to attract people in mid-life & older, but people of all ages show up! As a teacher, nothing gives me more joy than having people of all ages & experience doing what they can, and feeling good about it. Grateful to move. Today, we were leading up to forearm plank or dolphin pose. We started on our backs with Dead Bug variation to activate the core & stabilize the torso. Then shoulder mobility exercises with the block(protraction/retraction, elevation/depression), along with elbow extension/flexion. This sequence in the video is part of what follows. I love classes where I can blend my diverse knowledge of yoga & movement to create a class that gives students things they want AND also some of what they need😊 . Thank you all that came out this morning to breathe, move & cultivate intelligence to what’s going on in YOUR body. You guys ROCK!🙌🏼♥️ . I hear this all the TIME 🤔🤔🤔: * I have no time to MEDITATE. * I Don’t know 🤷‍♀️ how to MEDITATE. * I can’t sit still. * I’m uncomfortable when I Meditate The list goes on and on🗣🗣. . I’m so guilty of all those excuses🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️. I have to remind myself: * It does not have to take that much time (even just a few mins make a difference). * I don’t have to be good at doing it(what does being GOOD at Meditation even mean!!! It’s all perspective). * I can do it anytime, anywhere. . Think about this : 💡 Waiting for your morning coffee at a coffee shop sometimes takes longer then a short MEDITATION ( skip the coffee shop, even if it’s just a few mornings). 💡 Prep your breakfast at night, saves so much time in the morning. 💡 Go to bed and wake up only 10-15 mins earlier. 💡 If you have an over active mind like me find guided MEDITATIONS. I use @insighttimer . It’s free and very easy to use. 💡 Then throw in a few mins of stretching, moving your spine and joints. 💡 Even if it’s only a few days a week! Having trouble engaging your lats for a dead lift? . . . . This is an awesome drill to help engage the lats and create tension through the thoracolumbar fascia to stabilize the low back. . . . . Wow — what an uplifting, exhausting, challenging, and gratifying few weeks. It’s hard to put into words — two wonderful studios showed not just faith in me as a teacher but generosity and interest in my perspective. This photo from the incredible @citypilateszuerich doesn’t really do it justice but I had such a rewarding and fun experience teaching my “Breath, Space, Awareness” workshop to an incredibly open and generous group of people. Since this February, when I listed to Tom Myers and Robert Schleip talk about fascia and its interoceptive capabilities, and interoception in general, I’ve been rethinking and newly exploring what it really means to be a movement instructor. Or what it CAN mean. As I explore, both by myself and with my students, what it means to develop internal awareness, I’m amazed every day at how movement and breath, strength and softness, physical and mental, power and ease, mechanics and meditation, are all REALLY the same thing. I’m in awe of the possibilities that come from exploring physical intelligence. . . On Monday @katherinelaplant and I finished teaching the very first ITM of the Barre Training we developed for @becycleberlin. We spent over 40 hrs in the studio in 4 days. We spent the better part of this year writing the manual. We thought about all the trainings we’ve taken and we thought about what’s important to us as teachers. What we wished we’d known sooner. What needed time for us to figure out on our own. And we took some risks. It felt EXCITING to watch a group of talented, thoughtful people really analyzing bodies and movement and space, not just rehearsing lines. Being in that room felt full of possibilities. . . Having upper back pain after a long surf session, after skating all day, or going on that long run? Most people just live with it and sleep it off just for it happen over and over again. In most cases with this situation the upper traps and levators are over working because of the fatigue and under usage of the lower traps and rhomboids. Sure getting the upper traps worked on feels great but thats only temporarily helping the problem when the focus should be on firing and training the rhomboids and lower traps. Maybe try giving these few exercises a go and stop living with the consequences. - 3 sets of 10 eccentric scapular push ups 3 sets of 10 supine elbow push ups and with 2 second holds 3 sets of 10 slow prone scapular retractions - The goal with all of these is to slowly bring the shoulder blades back and down Give this a shot and get those muscles firing the way they should. Create a feeling of safety and watch how quickly mobility can improve. How far can you look up? Do you ever look up? The first picture looks decent. This student doesn't have any pain. She just "can't go" any further (she should- she only is using about half of her available range right now). Check out the second picture. WOW! 🤯 How did that happen- did we stretch for days? Manipulate her joints? Nope, 🙅 I just had her put her right hand on her left hand with her arms straight and push while breathing out. This creates some 'stability' through the 'center' allowing her neck to feel safe to move. Check it yourself and see if you can gain range. Did you improve🤔? Let me know below👇!

Movement is life! Make an effort to move every day, even if it‘s only for half hour. Not sure what to do? Here are a couple of ideas you can try that are virtually free. 1. Dance - Check out local dance studios/schools to see what classes are offered & sign up! Not your thing? Maybe try Zumba or make a playlist of your fave songs & dance your 🍑 off in the comfort of your home! It’s the best of both worlds! 2. Walk - If you work close to the beach or the boardwalk, take a change of clothes & a pair sneakers with you to work. At the end of your day, pop ‘em on & go for a walk! Better yet, leave the shoes off & enjoy walking on the sand. It’s a great way to work all of the smaller muscles in your legs, feet & toes! 3. Swim - excellent total body exercise. If you can, squeeze it in before or after work! There’s the Aquatic centre or you’ve got the biggest salt water pool to choose from, the sea! Doesn’t really matter what you do, so long as you do something. So grab a friend, co-worker, partner or whomever & get out there & MOVE!
