𝒲𝒽𝑒𝓃 𝒶 𝓇𝑜𝒶𝒹 𝓉𝓇𝒾𝓅 𝒷𝑒𝒸𝑜𝓂𝑒𝓈 𝒶 𝓂𝑒𝓉𝒶𝓅𝒽𝑜𝓇 𝒻𝑜𝓇 𝓁𝒾𝒻𝑒... After a long drive, Rikki and I had finally made it to Ocean Shores. We pulled up on the beach, in awe of the view. With the smell of the ocean, the rush of being able to drive right up to the water and the prospect of being able to spend the next 4 days sleeping in a cabin on the beach, we were high on life. After soaking it all in, we decided to get in the car and make our way to our AirBnb. I started the car, hit the gas and saw sand flying behind me in the rear view mirror. We knew it wasn’t good. Despite all our best efforts, the car just kept sinking deeper and deeper in to the sand. We almost over-heated with all the pushing and shovelling under the super hot sun. Every passer-by tried offering advice and every local *had* to crack a joke. Some people tried helping us then gave up and went along their way. Despite all the stress and uncertainty, we couldn’t stop laughing at how stupid we must have looked. At one point, we were warned that because the car was in so deep, if we *did* finally get enough grip to back out of the sand, we’d likely rip the front end of the car off. That’s when we called the professionals. Two hours and $200US later, we had a towing company (who was very used to pulling tourists out of the sand) come rescue us and we were back to enjoying our vacation. Sure, it was stressful, expensive and a bit of a setback, but no one cares about a story where everything goes perfectly. Here’s to unexpected challenges, the friends who keep us laughing in the midst of it all and the stories we get to tell later. I love you Rikki! Xo .
