Uncertain times have tensions high right now. The seeming lack of control is unnerving.
It’s important we look at the things we can control and the changes we can make, for ourselves and the world we want to live in.
I used to wish that I had gone into food policy because a good amount of health problems might diminish if we didn’t have certain options on the market, if certain foods were allowed to be marketed as healthy, if certain lobbies didn’t influence the dietary guidelines.
But then I realized that our power lies in being consumers.
We live in a demand and supply economy and we have the power to see more of what we want on the market and less of what we don’t.
The same goes for any service or business we believe in.
We can support local, sustainable business and goods.
Food isn’t just a health issue anymore. Agriculture, large corporations and factory farming has taken a toll on our environment.
I think it’s time we go back to basics and support our local farmers, get into gardening ourselves, compost, support our local butchers and fisherman.
I’ve been working on a garden and compost myself the last two weeks - lots of good info on the web and youtube.
It stinks that it takes something drastic to cause change but that’s how it goes sometimes.
No point in dwelling on the negatives. We have to keep moving forward!
