I have a hard time downsizing my collection.
I have given myself a storage space, and my collection has outgrown that space, so I tell myself I have to go through and downsize.
It has been years, so I should know what stickers I will realistically use and what I won't, right? Like clothes - if you haven't reached for it in years, then you probably don't need it - right?
Instead, I go through and just go 'IT'S SO PRETTY' and then it goes nowhere.
So how do I downsize?
1). Go through and sort stickers into seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter + Anytime and Holidays. By doing this, I may see 3 4th of July kits all together and I can pick a 'favorite.' It helps me go 'this kit is so pretty, but I already have this kit and I know I am not going to end up using it.'
2). Create a 'get rid of' box (I also use this box for kit leftovers). I then keep that box in a closet - usually add to it every couple of weeks. BUT, the point is to not get rid of the stickers immediately. Instead, they are out of sight / out of mind so you can SLOWLY forget about them. And if I find after a few weeks, I am still really not sure about getting rid of a sticker sheet - I can grab it and bring it back into the collection. However, I find that once they are in that box, I do tend to forget about them 🙈.
3). When it finally comes time to get rid of the stickers, I remind myself that they are going to good homes. I will first let my nieces go through the 'get rid of' box and take anything they want. Then, I'll decide if I have good sheets I could sell or just RAK. Either direction, I know the home the stickers are going to are where they belong 💕.
