High androgens (ie: testosterone or DHEA) is one of the most common hormonal imbalances. . And it is one of the most common features in women with PCOS. 🙆🏽‍♂️ . My past few posts have looked at the strong correlation between our body's ability to utilise the hormone insulin. . If our body is not effectively using insulin because of too much sugar/processed carbs OR long periods of carbohydrate and calorie restriction, then imbalanced insulin can cause the ovaries to produce excessive testosterone. . If you've received a PCOS diagnosis, then chances are you have some of the symptoms I have listed above. ☝🏾 . You don't have to have ALL these symptoms to be suffering with high testosterone though. I recently received some test results indicating that my own testosterone levels are quite high, yet I only have one indicator! . Equally, if you have one or more of these symptoms but haven't received any kind of diagnosis, then addressing your blood sugar is the best place to start. Check out my posts from last week. . ⭐ AND grab a copy of my FREE guide to PCOS + acne via the link in my bio. This will give you a good idea of some holistic ways to start supporting your hormones. ⭐ . Are any of these symptoms familiar to you at the moment?Share with me below 👇🏽👇🏾 . . . . . . . . . . #pcos #pcosdiet #pcosawareness #pcosfighter #pcoswarrior #pcossupport #birthcontrolproblems #hormonebalance #hormoneimbalance #hormonalacne #hormonehealth #estrogen #progesterone #periodpower #periodproblems #periodtips #hightestosteroneinwomen #highandrogens #bloodsugar #bloodsugarregulation #excessandrogens #acnecauses #acneproblems #bloodsugarissues #bloodsugarimbalance #healthybloodsugar #insulinresistance #insulin

I used to be afraid of snacking. . But going long periods without fuel is actually stressful for the body. . And stress = bad news for our hormones. . When your snacks are made up of healthy carbs, protein and fats they help regulate blood sugar and nurture your hormones. . How do you feel about snacking? 👇🏽👇🏿 . . . . . . #healthyhormones #menstrualphase #healthysnacks #healthysnackideas #hormonalhealth #womenswellness #womenshormones #pcos #pcosweightloss #pcoswarrior #pcossupport #nourishnotpunish #bloodsugar #bloodsugarbalance #menstrualawareness #menstruationmatters

The most effective first steps to take in healing ANY KIND of hormonal imbalance, is to re-balance blood sugar. . See 2 posts back on why blood sugar is key to hormonal health. . Balanced blood sugar helps the body to feel safe and abundant, which means it will be willing to expend energy on a healthy menstrual cycle. . Here are some key things to do to start healing your blood sugar + hormonal imbalances: . 💙 EAT EVERY 3-4 HOURS. Yep that's right, long periods of fasting tell your body that famine could be near and this generates a stress response. . ♥️ INCLUDE FAT, PROTEIN and CARBS WITH EACH MEAL (and ideally snack). Giving our body all the building blocks it needs at each meal helps stave off stress. . 💚AVOID EXCESS CAFFEINE + ALCOHOL. Both of these add stress to the liver and when consumed in excess, disrupt our blood sugar . 💜 EAT CARBS. But get them from whole food sources like sweet potato, fruits and other veggies. Cycling bodies need carbs, especially in the second half of the cycle. Denying our bodies carbs can actually make blood sugar imbalances worse, not better. . These suggestions are all about creating an environment of abundance, not restriction. I teach you this in much greater detail in Healthy Hormone Bootcamp. . Which one are you going to start with? Tell me below 👇🏼👇🏾👇🏽 . . . . . . . . . . #pcos #pcosdiet #pcosawareness #pcosfighter #pcoswarrior #pcossupport #birthcontrolproblems #hormonebalance #hormoneimbalance #hormonalacne #hormonalhealth #hormonalbalance #periodproblems #periodtips #hightestosteroneinwomen #highandrogens #bloodsugar #bloodsugarregulation #excessandrogens #acnecauses #acneproblems #naturalacnesolutions #oilyskin #insulinissues #bloodsugarhacks #insulinresistance #bloodsugarfriendly #ketoforwomen #menstrualhealth

When it comes to your hormones, your blood sugar matters! That's why I've been focusing on blood sugar regulation for the past couple of weeks. . Blood sugar regulation refers to how effectively our body deals with carbohydrates, in all forms, when they enter the bloodstream. . All carbs are broken down into single sugar molecules as they are digested. And these sugars are dealt with by the hormone insulin. . Let me be clear here, CARBS ARE NOT THE ENEMY. 🙅🏽‍♀️ . But when we consume too many processed carbs OR too little carbs to support our cycle, we can end up with insulin issues. 🤷🏻‍♀️ . Insulin is like the key that unlocks the door to our cells and enables them to receive sugar as energy. . 💙 Having well-balanced blood sugar means that your body is able to quickly utilise sugar and doesn't need to store excess amounts in our fat cells. . 🧡 Poor blood sugar regulation means that your body doesn't use or store sugar effectively, and therefore our blood sugar remains high well-after consuming carbohydrate. . Blood sugar imbalances wreak havoc with our sex hormones and our menstrual cycle. . Excess sugar results in high insulin levels, because that insulin is constantly being pumped out in order to help store all the sugar. . But equally STARVING OUR BODY OF HEALTHY CARBS can also cause high insulin, because the body becomes overly sensitive to a small amount of carbs. . High levels of insulin in the blood causes our ovaries to produce excessive testosterone, instead of estrogen. . And when our ovaries are producing excess testosterone, we end up with a host of symptoms. This is often referred to as HIGH ANDROGENS. . Stay tuned as I dive into symptoms of high testosterone this week. . . . . . . . . . . #pcos #pcosdiet #pcosawareness #pcosfighter #pcoswarrior #pcossupport #birthcontrolproblems #hormonebalance #hormoneimbalance #hormonalacne #hormonalhealth #hormonalbalance #hormonehealth #estrogen #progesterone #periodpower #periodproblems #periodtips #hightestosteroneinwomen #highandrogens #bloodsugar #bloodsugarregulation #excessandrogens #acnecauses #acneproblems #naturalacnesolutions #oilyskin #insulinissues

SAVE THIS POST to understand the phases of your cycle. . I've talked a lot about ovulation in my IG stories - saved in my highlights if you want to catch up. . Ovulation is enabled by a symphony of two key hormones produced by the pituitary gland. These are: . 💙 Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) - increases towards the end of the previous cycle and peaks at around day 3 of the next cycle during our period. . FSH causes a surge in growth of the egg follicles growing in our ovary. With this surge one particular egg follicle will emerge as the “dominant” egg follicle. . 🧡 Luteinising hormone (LH) - production surges as estrogen levels rise, around 24-28 hours before ovulation. . The surge in luteinising hormone causes the dominant egg follicle to release its egg. The egg travels into the fallopian tube then into the womb to await fertilisation. This is ovulation! . If the egg is not fertilised within 24-hours it dissolves. The dominant egg follicle transforms into something called a corpus luteum. . The corpus luteum then takes over production of estrogen and progesterone. This is how we get our healthy regular dose of progesterone that does so much to support our mental and physical health. . FSH + LH are hormones we don’t hear as much about, but they are also key players in the delicate symphony that is your menstrual cycle. . Did you know about these hormones and their role? Tell me 👇🏿👇🏾👇🏼 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #ovulation #ovulatoryphase #folliclestimulatinghormone #luteinisinghormone #hormonalhealth #menstruationmatters #womenswellness #womenshealth #cycleawareness #hormonebalance#lowestrogen #cycleawareness #periodsolutions#painfulperiods #fertility #holisticnutrition #nutritionaltherapy #painfulperiods #menstruationmatters #womenswellnessmatters #functionalnutrition #selflove #selfrespect #slowingdown #cyclesyncing #womenshormonalhealth #28dayclock
